Eight Tones Student Performance
Our annual Student Concert gives Eight Tones students the opportunity to perform on stage and share the music they have been working on with their teachers.
More importantly, the concert is designed to give students valuable real-world performance experience in a supportive environment. Performing in front of an audience helps students develop greater confidence, stage awareness and the ability to manage the pressure that comes with live performance.
This experience can also help students become better prepared for future public performances, competitions, auditions and grading examinations.
Student Performer Applications Are Now Open
We are currently accepting applications from Eight Tones students who would like to perform at the concert.
Students of different levels are welcome to express their interest. Performance slots are limited and will be arranged according to the programme.

Erhu Masterclass with Li Baoshun (李宝顺)
The morning programme features a special Erhu Masterclass conducted by Singapore Chinese Orchestra Concertmaster Li Baoshun (李宝顺).
During the masterclass, four selected students will perform a prepared piece in front of Li Baoshun and receive guidance directly from him on the spot.
Rather than simply watching a performance, audience members will have the opportunity to observe how an experienced professional musician approaches a student’s playing, identifies areas for improvement and works with the student to develop their interpretation, technique and musical expression.
It is a valuable learning opportunity not only for the four participating students, but also for Erhu students, teachers, parents and music enthusiasts in the audience.
About Li Baoshun (李宝顺)
Li Baoshun began learning the violin from his brother at the age of seven and started learning the Erhu at the age of eight.
In 1983, he entered the China Conservatory of Music, where he studied under renowned string master Liu Mingyuan and received training from distinguished musicians including Zhao Yanchen, Jiang Fengzhi, Lan Yusong, Wang Guotong, Zhang Shao, An Ruli and Ji Guizhen.
Prior to this, he joined the Fuzhou Military Airbase Cultural Troupe in 1978. After graduating from the China Conservatory of Music in 1987, he joined the China National Traditional Orchestra, becoming its Erhu Sectional Principal in 1988.
In 1995, he served as Acting Concertmaster of the China National Traditional Orchestra. In the same year, he was appointed Concertmaster of the Asia Orchestra, which brought together musicians from China, Japan and Korea.
Throughout his career, Li Baoshun has performed extensively in Asia, Europe and the United States. He has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras and collaborated with conductors and composers from China and around the world.
Li Baoshun joined the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) in late 1997 and is currently its Concertmaster.
