With almost thirty years of performance experience and twenty years of teaching experience, guzheng teacher Tay Pheck Huay has nurtured many solo students to a high level of mastery, as well as led many guzheng ensembles under her tutelage to numerous awards and accolades. As a guzheng teacher, she has successfully taught solo students of all skill levels, from absolute beginners to students who have attained the Performer’s Diploma conferred by the Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM) in Beijing in the grade examinations jointly conducted with the Nanyang Academy Fine Arts (NAFA) as well as other notable grade examinations for Chinese instrumental performance. In addition to her work as a private teacher, guzheng ensembles taught by her have attained excellent results in national competitions, including the Pasir Ris Crest Secondary School guzheng ensemble which clinched the Gold award in two consecutive years of the Singapore East Zone Guzheng Performance Competition. As a guzheng performer, Tay has held solo guzheng recitals and has also performed with Chinese orchestras as well as various chamber ensembles, including in events such as the River Ang Bao as well as the Singapore Arts Fringe Festival.
