At just 10 years old, she began her musical journey under the guidance of her erhu mentor Xu Wenjing. Chen Ning’s love for the Erhu led her to join the Chinese Orchestra at Nanyang Primary School and later, Nanyang Girls’ High School, where she was a sectional leader and concertmaster. In addition to her impressive school performances, Chen Ning also played with the Toa Payoh West Community Club Chinese Orchestra. Today, she is the Zhonghu Sectional Leader of the Singapore National Youth Chinese Orchestra and is also a part-time musician with Ding Yi Music Company.
Chen Ning is a graduate of the Bachelors’ in Music (Honours) Programme at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, where she studied erhu performance. Furthermore, she has also played with numerous ensembles and orchestras, playing on stages such as the Esplanade and Singapore Conference Hall. In 2015, she received a Diploma in Erhu Performance from the Central Conservatory of Music in conjunction with the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. It is no doubt that Chen Ning’s achievements and experiences are a display of her dedication and passion towards the erhu.
