Meet Wang Yiying, a cheerful and friendly teacher who believes in creating a lively and creative atmosphere in her classroom so that her students can learn and grow in a fun and engaging way. But don’t be fooled by her lighthearted approach, she is also incredibly patient and meticulous, making sure each student masters the technical skills required to play the Guzheng, but also tailoring her lessons to fit the needs of her students to make sure that they’re learning at a comfortable pace. With her guidance and support, you’ll be playing like a pro in no time. And all the lessons will be conducted in mandarin, helping you learn the correct traditional terminologies when it comes to playing the Guzheng and understanding its rich history.
Wang Yiying has been captivated by the beautiful sounds of the Guzheng since the age of 9, learning from Mdm Xu Hui, the Guzheng associate principal with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra, honing her skills in Guzheng to high levels of mastery.
After graduating from the Singapore Raffles Music College, Yiying dedicated herself to music teaching and performance, accumulating over 20 years of experience in performance and over 10 years of experience in education. She has performed in both solo and ensemble settings, including a concert before the late former president S R Nathan and as a soloist at the Spring Gala for the Singapore Chinese Embassy and for Singaporean composer Mr. Lee Ngoh Wah’s concert. Yiying’s passion for music and her skilled musicianship make her a true master of the Guzheng.
Throughout her years as a music teacher, Yiying has helped her students achieve impressive results in local Chinese instrumental graded examinations, as well as first and second place finishes in international Chinese instrumental competitions. In recognition of her talent as a teacher, Yiying was awarded the Teacher’s Excellence Award from the 2018 International Chinese Arts Festival.
In addition to her private teaching, Yiying is also a Guzheng CCA instructor at several local schools, where she has led multiple school ensembles and orchestras to achieve success in the Singapore Youth Festival competitions. With her expertise and dedication to her students, Yiying is a valuable and highly skilled music instructor.
