Meet Sim Kee – Guzheng Performer and Dedicated Educator
Sim Kee is a highly driven and disciplined Guzheng instructor known for her unwavering focus on technical precision and musical excellence. With a wealth of experience as both a performer and educator, she is especially suited for serious learners and aspiring soloists who are ready to challenge themselves and grow under a structured and results-oriented approach.
Sim Kee graduated in 2023 with a Bachelor of Music (Honours) from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), in collaboration with the prestigious Royal College of Music (London) and the Central Conservatory of Music (Beijing). She studied under Xu Hui, the Guzheng Associate Principal of the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO), and also trained in percussion under SCO percussionist Shen Guoqin. During her time at NAFA, her leadership and musical maturity earned her the position of principal player for both Guzheng and Chinese percussion.
As a familiar and respected figure in Singapore’s Chinese music scene, Sim Kee has been featured regularly as a soloist. In 2023, she performed the Guzheng concerto As Thus with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra at the Singapore National Youth Chinese Orchestra’s 20th Anniversary Legacy Concert—an acclaimed performance praised by The Straits Times. That same year, she won the Gold Award in the Senior Guzheng category at the Nanyang International Music Competition – Chinese Division.
In 2024, she became a top-three finalist in the Grand Category of the Singapore Chinese Music Competition (SCMC), once again performing As Thus with the SCO and earning the Audience Choice Award for her compelling stage presence and musical expression.
Currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Performance at NAFA, Sim Kee remains deeply committed to her craft. Her teaching style reflects her own disciplined journey—she sets high standards, expects focus and effort from her students, and pushes them to refine both technique and artistry. At the same time, she is a thoughtful and supportive mentor who provides clear guidance and structured progression, ensuring that her students not only meet her expectations but also surpass their own.
