Rain started playing Dizi at the age of 13 under the teaching of Mr Boo Chin Kiat. Rain was actively playing in various orchestras during his secondary school days. Besides school orchestra, he also playing in People’s Association Youth Chinese Orchestra, Boon Teck Chinese Orchestra and NTUC Chinese Orchestra. Rain also participated in 8th and 9th National Chinese Instruments Competition and obtained First and Third prize in Dizi Senior and Open category respectively.
In 1996, during his National Service. Rain was selected and joined the SAF Chinese Orchestra, under the baton of Maj Tay Soon Huat, Rain was given many opportunities to perform in many occasions and concerts. In 1998, Rain had obtained 2nd Prize in Dizi Open category. In 2012, Rain had started his teaching career in various secondary schools. He teaches in Jurongville sec and Anglican High that year and successfully obtained a grade 8 Dizi cert from NUS Chinese Instrumental Examination with distinction.
