Meet Joey Zhou — a patient and meticulous Guqin teacher who makes sure you understand every concept before moving on. She teaches in both English and Mandarin, so you can choose the language you’re most comfortable with and never miss a step.
Joey began her Guqin journey at the age of ten, studying under the late Master Gui Shimin, a renowned bearer of China‘s national intangible cultural heritage — the Jinling School of Guqin. With 24 years of dedicated practice rooted in this authentic tradition, she has developed not only a solid technique but also a poised and contemplative artistry that naturally draws students in.
She believes the Guqin is more than an instrument — it is a gentle anchor for the mind in today’s fast-paced world. In her classes, you will learn far more than notations and fingerings; you will discover a way to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with yourself. With exceptional patience and clarity, she demystifies this ancient art, guiding beginners step by step until they confidently play a complete, soulful melody.
Her talent has been recognized with a Bronze Prize at the China-Japan-Korea International Youth Music Competition and a Bronze Prize in the Traditional Category at the 4th Singapore Guqin Festival. A seasoned performer, she has graced over ten Guqin gatherings and art exhibitions, captivating audiences with her expressive depth.
Based in Singapore, Joey is dedicated to teaching and promoting the Guqin. She warmly welcomes students of all ages and backgrounds. Whether you are drawn to the Guqin’s quiet elegance or seeking a serene escape from your busy life, her patience and expertise will open the door to a rewarding musical journey.
