Zhou Yayi started learning the Guzheng at a very young age. At the age of 6, she started learning the Guzheng from Lu Jing, professor at Sichuan Conservatory of Music Middle school. In 2009, Yayi successfully entered the Sichuan Conservatory of Music Middle school. Then, she was under the tutelage of Lu Jing, Jiang Zhanxi and Zhang Yin, from Sichuan Conservatory Middle school and Chengdu Modern Chamber Orchestra respectively. Then in 2015, Zhou Yayi entered Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Singapore (NAFA) and began being under the tutelage of Singapore Chinese Orchestra Guzheng Musician, Xu Hui.
Throughout the years of studies, Yayi has entered various competitions and came out victorious if not, a prize winner. In 2011, competed in The third Hong Kong International Cultural Festival Competition and was awarded Gold. In 2012 and 2013 she entered the 6th and 7th Zhongsin International Music Competition in Guzheng Solo Open Category and was awarded First place in both years respectively. In 2016, Yayi was part of the NAFA Chinese chamber Quartet, they entered Singapore’s National Chinese Competition and was awarded first place and again in 2017’s Nanyang International Music Competition.
